Clippy-gate matters! Why Salesforce's war of words with Microsoft isn't just another tech marketing spat

It was, on the face of it, just a throwaway gag in the middle of the Dreamforce keynote last month when Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff mocked Microsoft’s Copilot offering as a sort of next-generation version of its (incredibly annoying) Clippy chatbot offering from many years ago.
In fact, it’s turned out to be the opening salvo - and recurring meme - of a full scale war of words between two old adversaries who find themselves engaged in a high stakes confrontation for thought and market leadership on a whole new front in the ongoing tech wars.
